I used to have a sony walkman that made this irritating sound as the disc was spinning and it'd skip. All I used to do was smash the top of the lid with my feminine fists of fury and it would always work right again.

haha smacking the lid of a walkman is okay.... kicking an external filter canister with a steel-toe shoe is another thing entirely.
