Age: 30

Timeline: Hope enters Silent Jersey shortly after the attack on Worthington Labs by Magneto due to the mutant cure that was developed there. She left Worthington Labs and came to New Jersey looking for a new job.
Personality: In a word, Hope is kind. She hates violence and claims conscientious objector status to any conflict. She is polite, warm and trusting to anyone she meets which makes her come off as somewhat naive. Though she doesn’t broadcast this, Hope sees her kindness as an advantage. She knows it leads people to underestimate her and if the need arises she’s willing to take advantage of that.
While friendly, Hope is not a social butterfly. She much prefers to spend time on her own, either researching what interests her or reading anything she can. This has led her to a few complicated relationships and the occasional moment of social awkwardness. She just can’t help getting bored with people who can’t keep up with her mind or aren’t clever enough to entertain her. She gets especially bored when men try to charm her with flattery and completely obvious lines. She is straight and enjoys a partner who keeps her curious about him.
When she believes in something, Hope will defend it to the end. She has a very strong will underneath all her kindness and will cut down anyone who argues against her with a quit wit and sharp tongue. She rarely gets this agitated though. She’s easy enough to work up if you know the right buttons to push, but mostly she tries to let things roll off of her. This is a constant struggle for her.
She has the odd habit of talking to herself nearly all the time and often loud enough for people to hear. When she has an idea she will write on any available surface and in a short hand code she developed herself. It’s very hard to get her attention when she is having one of these brainstorms. She likes to swim and finds water very calming
History: Dr. Hope Renee Chandler was born in Charleston, South Carolina and is the middle child of the wealthy and influential Marcus and Mary Chandler.
She was a shy young girl and from an early age showed signs of an above average intelligence. She loved to read and her parents often worried about the hours she’d spend alone with books instead of going out with friends or socializing. She did take etiquette classes, learned to be a proper Southern lady and went to all the events her parents insisted on but she never cared much about any of that and was often miserable at them. Still, she liked to make her parents happy and tried very hard to please them, even if they didn’t understand her or her quirks.
As she grew, her intelligence made her stand out more and more. She always excelled at math, science and anything that involved logical reasoning. She wasn’t quite as good at things that involved a little creative or outside the box thinking. After a few tests, the school system decided Hope was gifted and she got sent ahead to another grade and another and another. She was already a high school senior when she was fifteen.
At the time everyone assumed Hope’s intelligence was just the luck of the draw, a gift. While at lunch during school one day, Hope had her first seizure. She was taken to the hospital and the doctors ran as many tests as they could to get answers to what was going on. They didn’t realize that Hope was a mutant and her strange test results were because of her mutation.
It was then that Charles Xavier appeared in Hope’s life and explained to her and her parents what was going on. Her parents were shocked, but Hope was fascinated. That first conversation with Charles changed Hope’s life forever. She did briefly attend Xavier’s School for Gift Youngsters, long enough to gain control over her powers and understand her limitations but the boarding school environment was too confining for her mind and she left roughly a year after coming.
Back in the academia that she loved, Hope focused all her genius on gaining an understanding of genetics and human biology. She went to Harvard for a pre-medical and biology degree and then went to John Hopkins for medical school where she further refined her degree onto human genetics. Once she had her medical license in hand, she started searching out a research position that would allow her to continue to dissect the mysteries of the X-gene.
She heard about a project at Worthington Labs which involved the X-gene and genetic manipulation. She immediately applied for a position and the project and was brought in. She became one of the lead doctors on the Cure project. While she kept her own mutant abilities quiet from the other doctors, her brilliance pushed the project along until finally she built the protein that made the Cure work. This was distributed to the mutant community and eventually the military. She never intended her work to be used as a weapon and argued over the weaponization of it. When Magneto attacked the lab on Alcatraz Hope fled to San Francisco. She saw the destruction and chaos the Cure brought and regretted her part in it.
After the battle, Hope quit Worthington Labs and came to New Jersey. There she met Dr. House, who had an intelligence similar to her own. It was through him she was first introduced to the Fog World, where Hope picked up her new intellectual obsession. She became driven to figure out the world, how it worked, how it came to be and why it seemed to be able to think for itself. She also helped House, who had become a good friend, with the plagues and sicknesses that seemed to pop up frequently. She was not involved in the final showdown between Michael and Lucifer.
In the five months since then, Hope has been at Princeton Plainsboro, close to the people she knows and a place where she can do some good. She works mostly as a doctor, but does continue her research into the creatures that inhabit Silent Jersey.
Abilities/Powers: Hope’s mutant abilities all stem from her nervous system. Her X-gene has increased the level of bio-electricity in her body. This increase gives her nervous system a boost, making it work better and faster than a normal person. It has gifted her with her genius level intelligence, incredible skill with logic and reasoning as well as an almost flawless memory.
She is also able to concentrate the excess bio-electricity and project it out of her body in little bolts. These bolts only have about a three foot range but they can be transferred into another person through skin to skin contact. These bolts render a person unconscious in seconds. Their bodies are not adapted to the increased levels so the body shuts down to protect itself. This can last a few hours to a few days depending on the severity of the shot. Her powers have proven useful against the creatures of Silent Jersey. She can stun them, though not kill them. They also seem to protect her mind from the world itself to a certain degree. It can read her, but not as well as other people.
However, there is a downside to Hope’s abilities. Her body is constantly producing more and more bioelectricity. If she doesn’t discharge this build up it can overload even her mutated nervous system. When overloaded, Hope experiences grand mal seizures which can erase portions of her short term memory and leave her dazed and disoriented afterwards. She takes seizure medication to help control this, but isn’t allowed to drive and wears a medical alert bracelet.

Journal Entry number 13, this is Dr. Hope Chandler speaking. In my continuing efforts to understand this world, I’ve stunned, killed and dissected many of its fauna. These creatures make no sense. There are pterodactyl beings with human bodies and their faces are basically a nest of maggots. I’ve dissected the maggots as well as the creatures themselves and while the maggots are feeding on the flesh of the… beast, they don’t eat any of the vital tissues. They seem… stuck to the face, as if they’re supposed to be there.
When the fog recedes, these creatures… shift to normal pterodactyls. Well, normal is a relative term here, the point is they change physiologically and the human bodies, the maggots are gone. I am hesitant to draw any sort of conclusions from this shifting or to definitively say these are the same creatures without any sort of scientific proof but I feel as if this… shifting may occur with more of the simpler creatures here.
[a soft, frustrated sigh] In short, my dissections have proved nothing to my satisfaction. I will need to collect more samples. End of entry.
Sample RP: Hope wasn’t good at this part, but it had to be done. She picked up the lead pipe that she always carried with her, a lesson taught to her by House, and took a swing. The impact of the pipe against the puppet nurse’s skull jarred her arm but the wet crunch told her it was more than enough force to kill the creature once and for all. She wiped a few blood spatters from her cheek, then set the pipe down nearby.
She grabbed the nurse’s shoulder and with a grunt flipped her over onto her back. She had plenty of data on the nurses, the different types, the different abilities of the types so she didn’t need anything new from this one, though she would take a few general notes. What she was interested in this time were the parasites on the nurse’s back. She took the scalpel from the nurse, holding it carefully between her fingers since the thing was old and bloody. She made a few quick cuts then carefully pushed the parasite out of the nurse’s body. It landed on the grate floor with a wet slurp.
Smiling a little to herself, Hope pulled out the specimen jars she had found while searching the hospital and carefully collected her prize. She twisted the lid on and peered through the dirty glass.
“What secrets are you going to tell me, hm?” she asked the sample. “You can’t keep them from me forever.”
Additional Notes: Hope’s abilities and how the effect Silent Jersey have all been developed through RP with House. If needed, I can dig up some old threads to show you.
