I was holding my breath the entire time Boris Johnson was onscreen. He managed to get through without any major mishaps, although he made waving a flag look really difficult. I am nervous for the next four years.
The 'Introduction to London' slot was surreal. The start of Leona Lewis' performance put me in mind of this: Fifth Element: Blue Read more... )

Yep it was great games !

We won BMX ! woohoo ! :P I loved it too, it's great this sport is finally in the games !

Introduction to London was good, I hope your ceremonies will be as good as Beijing ones in 2012 ! (Even if I'm still a little jealous of you because the 2012 Olympics should have been in Paris ;P ;) )

You did win, yes. Gold and silver in the women's event, if I remember rightly, Chausson was excellent all the way through the rounds. Shanaze Reade kept falling off.

Lots of people are very excited and enthusiastic about 2012 - but we keep being warned we don't have as much money to spend as China did. I think that things like being able to use Wimbledon for the tennis is probably quite helpful in all sorts of ways. It will be hard to match China for spectacle, in terms of opening ceremony. It will most likely be quite different.

Maybe, but at least, no problem with pollution, poor people, or Tibet for you ;) I think it's more important than spectacular shows.

It finished already/now? I no longer know, since am not "home" with La Mérè watching them all the time. Are you talking about Boris Johnson in the closing ceremony (I think there normally are such things, right?) or something? F-list likes Johnson through Have I Got News for You, though is rather opposed to them politically, I seem to recall. Their immediate reaction was to wonder if it'll ever be safe to go to London ever again when he was elected, and such things.

That and I keep forgetting that it's London next since I'm not there to hear about budget changes and such all the time from the news and papers, although there have now been some mentions of it even here through this bout. I just keep going boo about everybody swarming in my city when it's crowded enough as it is, and hoping they'd mention the Hackney Tube developments even in this country. Diva Plavalaguna was nice though, nothing wrong with that, so am not sure how it reflects with whatever Lewis did ( ... )

The closing ceremony was this afternoon, then BBC broadcast a 'free concert' from outside Buckingham Palace. So yes, the Beijing Olympics is finished now. And yes again, Boris Johnson in the closing ceremony. I've never actually watched Boris in Have I Got News For You, just in interviews etc. There's no denying he's entertaining, but he has a tendency to say silly, often offensive things. It was alarming when he got elected mayor, both politically, and as the people who voted him in (apart from the 'traditional' Conservatives) seemed to be doing it for novelty reasons (imo). I honestly don't know how well (or otherwise) he's doing as mayor - someone in London would be able to better comment on that, I suppose. He banned alcohol on the tube, though I don't know how that's going now.

'...everybody swarming in my city when it's crowded enough as it is...' Yes, I know what you mean, but I was pleasantly surprised at how many of the events are going to be outside of London. Glasgow is going to be one of the football venues; ( ... )
