If there's any questions about audio equipment, etc. you might have, I could possibly help you there.

One thing to know about mixer boards - you won't probably be ever pressing/flipping/twisting half of those buttons, switches and knobs; and even if you do, you will probably only adjust them once, ever.

I'd probably phail that character narrative... design... thing, because I'm a weaboo who draws weaboo things.

Yeah, it's a big scary board but there isn't a whole lot to change. Adjusting the level in recording is the only thing that's semi-active and more than just on/off, but like you said you should only have to adjust it once. Only things that require a little more thought is making sure inputs are correct, and that's on the monitor itself.

The odd thing is that for the class project we're having to draw eachother's characters over and over. And that talent is all over the board. Got a caricaturist, a semi-weaboo chick, two guys that don't have experience drawing (and constantly insist they suck), a painter, a perfectionist with details, and several other people and me. As soon as he said 'these are all going to get put together' I went 'awfuck' since the style/skill levels were all over the board.
The character for the class is Roq, since she should be easy to replicate. Chi is for my personal project, it's a genderless sprite.

What software are you guys using? Fun fact: While there's no 'true' replacement for professional quality audio equipment and software, freeware/open-source audio software is leaps and bounds beyond what it used to be ( ... )

We're using Protools HD with a C24 board which is attached to a small recording room. The recording room was apparently recently soundproofed better, and it's very nice. We use some pretty spiffy mics and guards and stuff so sound is clear, but I don't know the actual specs of it all. There's a few other computers in the lab with Protools LE with the little box thing with two channels.

I'm taking these courses at a community college, MCC.

I just went in to the class and decided to not bring in any of my previous characters and made stuff up for the class. It's worked out well for my own practice and compatibility with the rest. I thought about it! But figured it would just be simpler to go off of what the classmates were expecting, less explanation.
