I can tell by the lack of facts in this article, that you truely are a lost liberal soul. First of---illegal workers (the majority) DO NOT PAY TAXES. We will get back to that later, but heres some things you need to ponder. Its a felony charge to be an illegal immigrant in Mexico---did you know that? Why don't they want their own people? The Mexican government is pushing them here, why? In 1986, Congress granted 3 million illegals amesty. So, what, everytime when we get a boatload of illegals, we just give up and let them in? No-one is saying they can't come here. Just do it LEGALLY. Only in America, can millions of people breaking the law protest for rights. The way I look at it, if you not Indian, then someone in your family came here the right, and legal way. Why should we bend the rules for them? Mexico isn't the only poor nation at their. Another thought to ponder---if you legalize them, then they are no longer cheap labor---cause now we have to pay them legal wages. trust me, their are plenty of unskilled American workers that

Some of us work, and do not have time to edit our messages. But theres an old saying---proof is in the pudding. Liberals do not understand the term FACTS. You can argue til you turn blue, but I offer facts, something you cannot. No-one is saying they cannot come here---just go home, fill out the paper work and do it the right way. Only in America can lawbreakers fight for rights. Guess what---I'm sure someone in your family came here the LEGAL WAY. You think its fair for the illegals to get the greatest gift in life? A life here in AMerica. Rewards for the criminals---YES IF YOU BREAK A LAW< YOUR A CRIMINAL. I hate liberals ALOT--hows that.

you're correct, in fact. my grandmother, like millions of other dirty micks, came to this country and sent money home to ireland. according to you, this relatively standard practice accompanying immigrants should have wrecked the country's economy. or is that only when the immigrants speak spanish?
i don't have time to refute all of your arguments and, honestly, your tone doesn't make me want to bother. i believe ms. q's main point was that though we may bitch and moan about the costs of illegals in america, we are still quite willing to accept the fruit they pick and the labor they provide. thank you for taking time out of your busy day, doing whatever you do, to spew vitriol anonymously on someone's journal.

Federal law mandates that hospital emergency rooms treat any person who seeks care. The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) found, in 2004, that annual costs to treat uninsured illegal aliens run to approximately $2.2 billion. Recent Federal efforts to reimburse hospitals for uncompensated care notwithstanding, recovering unpaid costs has been exceptionally difficult and has caused the ruin of numerous healthcare facilities. According to a report in the Spring 2005 issue of the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, 84 hospitals in California alone are closing as a direct consequence of the rising number of illegal aliens and their non-reimbursed tax on the system

Is it not a basic tenet of the new liberal movement to civilly debate critical issues affecting ALL Americans? Or does it only apply to issues of your own choosing? The facts are pretty clear and indisputable. These figures are from surveys conducted by the Pew Institute and they have found that 50% of Americans support a decrease in legal immigration and another 20% wants to maintain the current level of legal immigration of less than 500,000 a year across all categories. It was also reported that all Americans oppose illegal immigration and demands for secure borders, but the most interesting finding is that a slim majority supports the enforcement-only House bill. Does it not matter to you at all that a majority of Americans are against legalization of those who entered the country illegally and continue to break our nation's laws? Your argument of USD7 billion social security deductions from illegal immigrants as propping up the system is so naive and shows such a shallow knowledge of the fundamentals of our economy, so i suggest

I agree that it is unfair to try to create a cost/benefit argument for or against illegal immigrants. Even legal immigrants tend to create more costs than benefits for their adopted country. I live in Canada and we attract legal immigrants with university degrees and professional experience yet they still end up with low paid jobs due to lack of local experience, contacts and language challenges. However, legal immigrants do not enter the country with zero security checks. For a country such as the U.S. that has a very strong reason to worry about security, I think the illegal immigrants pose a very significant risk and danger. Also, by illegal immigrants entering the country BEFORE legal immigrants, it might compare to a person who stands in line and watches as hundreds of people step in front of you. I only wish that Anna Q. could experience a long lineup for air travel or gas or anything, and then watch as a big group of people push her to the end of the line. How would she feel????
