Kyle and Aradia had to evacuate their home and they're staying with us for a little bit. Aradia brought her lap top along, so I'm using it to do a quick update

Isn't it nice to have the kids home again? :) Seriously, it's nice of you guys to put them up. I hope that the flooding doesn't cause more damage.
The last flood here had me right on the shore of what I called Lake Inferior. I sort of liked it, but it was winter time - no mosquitos nor gnats (I particularly dislike the white gnats). Now, be careful canoing to work; two kids got stuck in Lake Inferior when they tried it.
I know that all floods are being compared to Katrina these days. The flooding there was bad, but the real disasters were the responses by government, and the follow-up. Moronic reporting does nothing to help.
So is this woman named "Stephenie?" If not, she should be.
Memory management problems. I used to like the memory management on the DEC Alpha, and on my friend's Amiga. And the two best OS's for managing memory I found over the years were GeoWorks and Debian Linux. But I don't think you're that interested in a lot of new/old/really old software. But I had to say it somewhere... :)
It is kind of nice to have them here. I know there were a couple of issues when they were here before, but I do love them and would hate to see them living in a shelter or... worse... at Julie's parents'.
It's really too bad that a town this size can't have at least one good news team. We can only get three channels on our TV, the ABC affiliate, the CBS affiliate and PBS. We could not get 9 (ABC) in very well while the flood was going on and were stuck with 2 (CBS). 9 is fairly professional and I don't mind their news team. Much. 2, though, is on par with, oh, a community college news team on a bad day.
There were lots and lots of storms in the northern part of the state for the last couple of months and now all the water is running down here. We have levees along the river but they weren't built to stop this much water.
Thank goodness you & Julie are okay. What a pain about your place of work though. Ugh, this is all so awful. My friend at work is from Iowa and her whole family still lives there and she keeps telling me how bad it is... it's just horrible.
Yeah, especially since it was such a nice, clean building. Everything was still newish as the management took good care of things. Did your friend's family lose their home or anything like that?
My friend has probably 10 different family members there (plus some friends & her husband's family) and I don't think anyone lost their homes, thank goodness. Her husband's mother is in a care home (she has alzheimer's) and I know they evacuated, but I don't know it the place was damaged or not.
Ugh, I can't believe it's so bad. I'm just so, so happy you're safe. I hope things return to semi-normal soon.
