Fall and Too Much Sex.

There was a heavy mist until noon today and leaves are starting to fall in the backyard. Fall is almost here!

I love each new season as it comes. They all seem so wonderful in comparison to the one before it. I love summer, but it’s gotten old-my room’s too hot a night, I sweat on the walk to class, and my wardrobe needs something new. I want to wear boots and scarves and leggings again! I want warm drinks and to pile the blankets on at night to keep warm. I can’t wait to jump in leaf piles and… and soups!

Mom is making her split-pea soup for dinner tonight. I told her a few minutes ago that I didn’t like it and she seemed surprised. I thought she and dad were the only ones that liked it? Well, maybe the boys too, but they eat everything.

Changing topics-one of the people I worked with at Kroger told me that her husband made flip-flops made out of old car tires, so last night I was poking around online trying to find out how to do it. I stumbled on a website that has lots of DIY projects that helped you recycle old things and turn them into things you need. t

On a different note, in my film class right now we're watching This Film Is Not Yet Rated. (YES! Finally figured out how to do the STUPID LINK IN TEXT THING!!!) It's a documentary about the rating system and how it's controlled by the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America), a single organization which bases it's ratings on the judgement of 8 raters. Eight raters are supposed to represent the average american parent. I'm not very good with statistics, but I know that's not even in the hundredths of a percentage of american parents. I'm glad the documentary brought this to attention, but the way it went about this is.... just not effective. It shows tons of sex scenes from movies that had to cut certain material in order to get an R rating instead of NC-17 (an NC-17 rating cuts the film's profit significantly, since children under 17 aren't even allowed in the theatre with an adult, as they can for an R rated movie).

The stuff I've seen so far in This Film Is Not Yet Rated deserves an NC-17 rating. Some of that stuff is just gross. Yes filmmakers should be able to put the things they want into their movies, but at the same time they should accept that the majority of parents probably don't want their kids watching stuff like that. While the MPAA might need more raters to represent a wider range of americans, and maybe even a competition rating company, most of their ratings in regard to sex seem perfectly fair to me. The whole point of the rating system is to warn parents of content that might be questionable for their kids to see. Adults can choose to watch whatever they want. The films will still sell to the people who want to see them.

The guys in my class are being really immature about the film. I guess it's to be expected that if a borderline-pornographic film is being shown in class and the professor has been adamant about not being afraid to express our real opinions, but apparently some of them take it to mean they can say whatever words they want without offending people. I mean, I cuss occasionally, but seriously, you don't have to say every word in the swear words dictionary to prove you're a tough guy. It just makes you look like an asshole.
