I don't work tomorrow, I'll live. marc_breaker April 11 2008, 04:33:56 UTC
unless you are planning on pickling yourself with booze to ensure that bugs won't survive in your bloodstream

I think that was pretty well thought-out for a rant! Probably helps that I agree with a lot of it. . . .

It's true that the issue of Israel and Palestine is quite touchy, because of that conflation of criticism of Israel with wanting to see it destroyed. Some of that touchiness sounds like excessive defensivenss. There has to be a better way to not only deal with the issues, but discuss them without people blowing a headcog.

I know, I sort of waffled about leaving that in, I didn't want any confusion on my stance, but given that I've heard more than one conservative over the years make snarky comments about concerns over the Israeli governments choices being anti-semitic and anti-Israel, and it makes me crazy. It's like you have to be pro-one-side-or-the-other.. The idea of being pro-peace, WITHOUT wiping out the other side, seems absolutely foreign.

So have you been listening to Ann Coulter again?

>then they have to have a CHANCE
This is a particularly sensative topic to me because of some stuff happening locally. I think we should give the poor a chance, the inner cities a chance, etc.... but in my personal history- many do not want to work hard for the chance. If the g'vmt gives anything away then there will always be a parasitic group that feeds on it and claims its never enough; there will be abusers of the system that streach it for their own needs.

>REAL chance, make sure they can afford an education
I would rather see the quality of our public education go up- but I think we are talking about two different ways to solve the same thing. Additionally I wish more was done for the early ones who are outstanding.

Woah, dying from cavities? Eww....

(Also, nice oh-so-inconspiuous reference to the Boston Tea Party. It made me laugh. And as far as it goes, I agree totally and completely with that sentiment. Major reason I'm into karate is that I can learn how to avoid conflict, then learn how to deal with it if I have to.)

Pickling yourself with booze? ...also eww.

As much as I wish that I was making things up, the cavity case is referenced here: http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/ada-death-from-untreated-cavities-senseless.html

thank you thank you, conspicuous geeky references is not a talent I possess I fear. :) Mine tend to hit you upside the head with a 2x4 with the book reference on it.

*grin* Although permanent pickling is problematic (wheeee alliteration!), as is pickling CONSTANTLY, I am not above getting pickled, or helping friends get pickled at parties here. Though having said all that, I can COMPLETELY understand where your comment comes from. :)
