I hate to tell you this, but it's going to stay f**ked up for several more months.

I was in AZ for a year before things settled down to normal.

One of my exes had to do that at his apartment.

I had to fill out a card and leave it in the box when I moved here, and then they put my name in the box (so I didn't have to).

I don't know about security, but with multiple people living at the same address over a short period of time it does help them only put the right mail in the box. This way the new tenant doesn't get your mail (I guess that could be security?).
