Arthur knows that Merlin is, without a doubt, the worst manservant ever.
It doesn’t matter that this is the most uttered phrase from anyone’s lips since the world began; that doesn’t make it any less true. He never arrives with breakfast on time, he’s more of a liability than a help on a hunt, and he continually fails to observe the correct protocol in just about every situation there is. It’s a wonder Arthur keeps him around at all.
The fact is this: as far as Arthur's concerned, Merlin fails at just about everything-- except, it seems, saving his life. But even then he manages to botch that up by being a godforsaken sorcerer about it

Really, Arthur thinks angrily at the air that day and many a day after, who does Merlin think he’s trying to fool? Once Arthur knows what to look for, all of a sudden it’s like he can’t stop seeing it. Suddenly Merlin’s magic is bloody everywhere, and Arthur can’t imagine how he didn’t notice it before. In hindsight, he rather thinks that when he does eventually have to reveal to Merlin that he knows, he might just pretend that he knew all along. I would apologize for my horrible taste in music, but I'm not really sorry. But consider yourself warned.
I don't know what sort of music you like and how much of these you'll either already have or completely hate, so I tried to include some of everything, some serious and some very tongue-in-cheek. I haven't written down what songs represent what, that way you can decide for yourself, and it's more fun that way. I'll just say that there's no order, chronological or otherwise, to them. Some were chosen for their overall feel rather than their exact lyrics, some are episode-specific (ranging over ... pretty much the whole series to date), some are very general, some are character/relationship specific (somehow I think quite a few Arthur/Gwen ones sneaked in), and I threw a couple on that are from another person's point of view towards Arthur as well. HAVE FUN.
And if THAT doesn't make me the most obvious Secret Santa ever, I don't know what

DO NOT FRET, SANTA-EE. I DID NOT FORGET YOU. I MERELY GOT OWNED BY LIFE FOR A LITTLE BIT. BUT REST ASSURED, YOUR PENULTIMATE PRESENT IS HERE. (Your final one being ... delayed by the postal service!) People began to draw closer together as the slow strains of the viola and the sweet tinkle of the harp washed over them. Merlin dropped his hands, ready to push his way back to the safety of his corner, maybe pick up a mug of mulled mead along the way, when Arthur took his arm again. "All right?" he said cheerfully. As though he wasn't pulling them closer together, splaying one large hand over Merlin's waist.
