After I had finally pried myself loose from Harmony, I quickly made certain to be as far away from the typing pool as possible. No matter the fact that I gave the silly twit a chance to prove herself, I really don't fancy being smothered or suffocated by her thankfulness. Which was rather enthusiastic. Well, this *is* Harmony we're talking about
( ... )
"Wesley, hey." I smiled to him, as his voice pulled me out of my intense focus, "How long have you been standing there?" I asked curiously.
It was probably a good thing in the long run that he'd interrupted. I glanced at the clock and realised hours had passed since I started working and I hadn't even noticed.
"Not overly interesting, just a little something I was tinkering with that would make routine patrols a little easier." It wasn't exactly most innovative idea in the universe. Basically nothing more than a more durable cross-bow bolt that was in an automatic loading rig. "I'm not even sure it's actually going to work though. Guess we'll see when it's finished."
I walked further into the lab and perched on her desk. "Not long, actually. I just walked in. Got a bit tired of doing research and my eyes needed a bit of a break." I glanced at whatever she was doing, looked like your normal crossbow bold to me.
Then again, this being Fred, I doubted that it was. I'm sure there was some innovative idea behind it we'd not understand until it was done and she explained it to us. And even then Gunn and Angel would only ask how fast and how good it would kill.
"It looks rather...Alright, it looks like a crossbow bolt," I gave her a sheepish grin. I reached out and traced a finger over the bolt carefully. One never know what the bloody hell she did with it. Then again, I doubt she'd tinker with it out here in the open if it were really dangerous already.
"I wanted to ask you about a fellow that works here. A certain Knox?" I sat back up again and crossed my arms in front of my chest.
Wesley had gone to the trouble of going all the way down to the lab just to ask about Knox? Why did that worry me a little? There must be some reason he was curious enough to bother, but what was it? Knox was on my staff, not his.
"Knox? Sure, of course." I nodded slightly, my attention completely focused on Wesley now, "Should we go up to my office for this?" I asked. Knox wasn't around right now, but I wasn't sure what exactly Wesley was after, and he might not want Knox overhearing anything. Something told me from his body language that I was right about that, which only served to worry me more.
