Books: Dead Until Dark

Oct 01, 2008 23:01

Having watched the first couple of episodes of True Blood I decided to try the books upon which the series is based. Well I'm sick as hell at the moment and had nothing better to do so I figured why not continue my recent vampire obsession??

So far, I've only read the first book "Dead Until Dark" by Charlaine Harris. I quite enjoyed it, it surprised me that the series appears to be keeping so true to the book. The entire first episode only really covers the first chapter so it would seem like the first series is going to be based on just the first book.

I think they really cast the show well except I haven't come across the character Tara yet. I think she is awesome in the show but I don't think she turns up in the books till later, the only mention of a cousin of Lafeyette's is early in the second book. I'm guessing she will show up and be Sookie's friend. Also, the books aren't as slutty as the tv series, but then the whole thing is told from Sookie's perspective so it wouldn't be and the tv show is on HBO = no further explanation required!

And while Vampire Bill is all mysterious and brooding, I'm also a little in love with Eric, might be due to the Swedish actor playing him!

Won't go into any more detail in case people don't want to be spoiled but I will say the books are worth a read but I am sad about some of the events that will be coming up!
While I am on "True Blood"... when is the second season being filmed? I'm assuming they won't be airing it till this time next year??
