Taking on the meme/challenge here.

Fandom Snowflake Challenge #4

Since this is the start of a new year, this challenge will be to set your own goals! Of course, we can all make large or ambitious goals, but remember that small and/or short goals are also good! Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment here saying you did it.

This one is dishearteningly easy to answer. Easy because it’s already there; disheartening because it’s an old goal, which has been progressing quite slowly, and which I already made - and several times repeated - in the Snowflake Challenge itself.

Clear back in 2016 (in this post), my stated goal was to turn out a dozen fics for that year, and I named them. Some were contingent (“whatever I do for RemixRedux/Summer of Giles/Circle of Friends this year”), but some were specific fics by title. And my fulfillment of that goal … fell short.

I did “ Curious Poses” in April 2016, “ the Other Night I Dreamt of Knives” in May 2016, “ the Final Cut” in August 2016, and “ There Ought to Be Clowns” in December 2016. And that was as far as I got that year.

In subsequent years, I reiterated the same goal, because it remained unfinished. And I continued to make steps in that direction, but slowly. July 2019, “ Jack Be Nimble”; March 2020, “ Beneath the Bitter Snows”; March 2023, “ Zulu Time”; April 2023, “ the Price of Lace”. And, oh yes, I did other stories as the years passed: 18 that I can specifically identify, plus various drabbles and drabble sets (along with 49 different referential drabbles in my Snapshots series) … but, even nine years later, there are still three stories from the original list that I haven’t yet produced.

(A very attentive observer might note that the eight stories named above, plus three yet to be done, only comes to eleven. The missing twelfth is because there was no RemixRedux that year.)

So, that’s my goal for this year, to finish the list that I posted in 2016. One of the three remaining stories will be challenging; the other two, I just had to hold them till I’d done other stories first, and I don’t expect them to cause me much of a problem as long as I can get to them and do the work.

Also, another goal for this year: a Buffyfic specifically for my granddaughter in China. I don’t even know if she’s aware her grandfather does Buffy fanfic, but her father has been notified that he needs to prepare her; her birthday is in August, so that’s when I intend to deliver this ‘present’. To the list I posted in January 2016, then, you can add one more title, abbreviated as tPHoLJ. Whether or not I can manage the others - three stories shouldn’t really be that difficult, but I have a disappointing track record - I’m specifically dedicated to getting that one done on time.

So there you are. Here I stand; I can do no other.
