Taking it to Twitter

Apr 03, 2009 11:54

We have been told that Frank Marshall, one of the producers of The Last Airbender, has an account on Twitter. We've also been told that many of our supporters have been sending him harassing messages.

While we understand that this is a rare opportunity to communicate more directly with the producers, rude behavior reflects badly on all of us. It ( Read more... )

Are there any suggestions for dealing with the highly impolite troll who has been harassing Frank Marshall on twitter? It's gotten fairly offensive and insulting, to the point where Marshall has said he's no longer going to comment on the movie on his twitter...

We'd encourage you to direct message the person responsible and politely ask them to stop, explaining your reasons as best you can given the format.

Not gonna work. He's just going to call you "racist" for defending Marshall.

I've emailed all his handles that I could find to abuse@twitter.com and encourage others to do the same. Hopefully they'll block him by IP address or something.

Seems Frank Marshall has had enough of the trolls and locked up his account. At least for me as non-twitter-user I just see now "This person has protected their updates." Are you still able to get in contact with him?

Apart from that it's a pity that some people just can't stay polite on the internet. :C

He unlocked it again this morning, for now. Fingers crossed.

thank you :-)

the great thing about that particular blog is that there are many industry people who read it. Colleen Doran has a high profile comics industry blog. The links on the side of her page are not just her favorite sites, they're mostly people she's had some level of professional interaction with at some point, and a lot of them read her blog and link back to it (mostly about creator's rights and copyright issues). It will get wide exposure this way. How wide, we'll see.

I cannot thank her enough for allowing me to post about this, because it's her blog and it reflects on her as well and since she has done work for several film projects too. Many wouldn't want to get involved for fear of being dragged into something they're not a part of. I'm very grateful she gave me free reign to speak on her site.

You are very welcome! ^^-

Here's hoping this gets spread around more. The more people that are involved in the industry hear about the problem, the more we can do to pressure Hollywood from doing crap like this.

I'm grateful for that, too. The more people have blogs about this issue, the more aware people are of it. I want this to be a true grassroots movement! :D

He's Trying to Make Us Out to Be Racists anonymous April 6 2009, 11:55:18 UTC
On Twitter, Frank Marshall wrote:

"Our vision for the movie is of ONE world, made up of four Nations, influenced and inspired by the Asian undertones of the series.2:23 PM Apr 3rd from web"

He wants a multicultural world while those of us who seek authenticity are the racists, putting the blame on us. Yes, we are racist for insisting that an all-Asian story have all Asian characters.

How about respond with how come that fantasy movies centered on European culture were not altered to have Asian or African cultures added into them and those movies did fine on their on. Like LOTR, Narnia and The Golden Compass to name a few. Those movies are also multi-cultural in their own way without altering or adding anything that disrespects the original.

Yet, for movies and stories that center around Asian and African cultures, why let the white man always be the main hero in those stories and/or add European cultures to those stories when the originals are already good on its own. Lastly, what is wrong with letting a non-white main hero take center stage in a Hollywood film?

Anyway, you understand the idea and lets see if he has anything to say about that. So you can either use what I've said or say something similar to this.

I used part of the suggested post but I also said I will not pay money to be insulted by a movie.

It's funny I'm willing to pay 100 bucks for a Katara cosplay, for DVD box sets and merchandise. Yet they are pretty much telling me they don't want my money for the movie with this casting.
