I couldn't have said it better. I think it has something to do with writing less on paper. I also firmly believe it has to do with waiting less. In New York I started writing again, a bit, partly because of all the time spent on the subway. Pen, paper, and nothing else to do. I think that's the key.
Indeed, that seems to be a major part of being a teenager: waiting. And the art of doing nothing. No driver's license, no way to get around, and nothing much to do. Now, even when I have nothing to do and nowhere to be I feel like I should be doing something.
I used to be able to just sit on my bed listening to music and playing with candles for hours. I don't do that any more.
Leonard Cohen actually came to Wellington a little while back. We decided not to go because tickets were really expensive and it was at a big arena. I have a hard time enjoying concerts in a big arena even if I really like the artist.
