Wow, all but the last are things I've read.

The Deathworld trilogy was pretty good. As you say, the first entry was the strongest.

This is also true of The Stainless Steel Rat. "A Stainless Steel Rat is Born" is quite a ways down the line and I consider it a lot weaker than the first three.

"Patchwork Girl" is also one of the weaker Oz novels (I did a detailed review of each of Baum's novels last year, here's the one on Patchwork Girl). I didn't find it a BAD Oz novel, but it is definitely in the second tier.

The Coldfire Trilogy was indeed awesome. I loved the worldbuilding, and you're right, Vryce and Tarrant would be slashed to hellangone by fangirls.
