The Stainless Steel Rat series decreases slowly but steadily in quality as time goes on. The first three stories are very good. I enjoyed the next two novels, but I could see where things were going and the third follow-on confirmed my judgment that there wasn't much chance of him recapturing what made the originals what they were.
