Decided to indulge in a couple of music downloads this week. Yeah, saving money for a trip, yeah. But this is how I recharge myself for when work is sucking the life out of me.

Mardi Gras ParTEA!
Machaelle and I decided to host a little Mardi Gras themed dolly tea party at Crown & Crumpet which snowballed into a twenty person event with a completely custom menu, drinks and a King Cake with a baby in it and everything. I can't quite believe it. The jewelry is finished and I didn't lose an eye or a fingernail or anything. I went over schedule because a few of the pieces were giving me a ridiculous amount of trouble, but I did reach the number I'd set as my goal. Put a Bird On It!
Spending the day making tiny things - with a short break for a lovely balmy walk in a t-shirt with a gorgeous view of sunset over the sea (YAY, CALIFORNIA!!) to eat ramen with Machaelle and Jan - and so far it's been the usual mix of frustration at my failing dexterity/inexperience with the materials and elation when something actually turns out. So I was gazing out at the gloriously misty yard back there behind my monitor and impulsively decided that I would go clear the weeds away from the runners that the Triphylla has put out. I sure as hell hope this year is an improvement over the last. For everyone!
If a fantastic New Year's dinner is an auspicious beginning then there is hope yet. We decided to give the new-ish Baker & Banker a try, and it was even better than I'd expected.

Busy wrapping gifts tonight. Terribly disappointed that my rented copy of Gangs of New York won't play on my computer, as that was going to be excellent distraction from labels and paper and tape. Perhaps that will have to be our after dinner Christmas film instead. Since we work retail, we usually only see our family on Christmas maybe every five ( Read more... )
