So, you want to know why I was asking what film you first identify Kenneth Branagh with? Well, I'll tell you.

Read the following news story that made me weep: Gildroy Lockhart To Direct Thor Movie

I'm not upset by the idea of Branagh directing Thor. I actually think he could do some wonderful things with it, potentially. The world of Asgard should be portrayed with Shakespearean flair. The line I object to is the caption. "Kenneth Branagh, best known as Harry Potter's narcissistic "defense against the dark arts" professor in The Chamber of Secrets, is reportedly in talks to take on the directorship of Marvel's mighty Thor movie..."

Kenneth Branagh is a multiple time Emmy winner, and an Oscar nominee. He is probably the pre-eminent Shakespearean actor of our age. And I just wanted to weep at the fact that he is "best known" for his role as a minor comedic character in the Harry Potter films.

And don't get me wrong - I *liked* him in that movie. And as Nico said, at least they aren't saying he is best known for his role as Lovelace in Wild Wild West. But still, it made me sad.

So I just had to know that I wasn't alone in associating him with other movies before Harry Potter. Fortunately, most of my friends did not respond, at first, with his role in Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. And I don't hold the fact that some of you did against you.

Now, ComicBookMovie.com may be right. And he may be best known to the world at large as Lockhart. But I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who identifies him with his Shakespeare work above and beyond Harry Potter.
