Change of career?

Emo post deleted. I'm trying to think of what I want to be doing in three years. I don't think I want to be a SysAdmin any more.

I did SysAdmin for five years in Kansas, before I pretty much went mad ( ... )

Maybe the Peter Principle is just been reinforced here. I feel like I've been promoted to the level of my own incompetence, and it wasn't a very far journey. It seems like there is one minor screwup per month that gets blown all out of proportion.

I've been "almost fired" more times lately than I can count. Maybe it's just the stress of having no savings (at present) and the general "work until you die" mentality of the position, but I am seriously starting to feel worn down.

The thing that really bothers me is that I can't think of a new direction I could take that would a.) be enjoyable, and b.) provide the same financial input that I am getting now. I really don't want to be a software developer. I write terrible software! Scripts are a different matter.

I hope Bud reads this because the same thing happens to him all the time. I wish he could find a passion other than computers, like being an accountant or something :-) It's not the machines most times, it's the people that use them. Chin up though!

Buy yourself a sailboat and go on a really long trip, only to end up on some isolated island where you can chill for a couple of years.

I've thought about doing this since I saw Gilligan's Island for the first time as a kid.

Have you TRIED building a satellite Internet node using only coconuts and a bottle of Ginger's suntan lotion? It isn't as easy as the Professor makes it seem.

Three years ago, I was looking forward to do what I was six months ago and then on. That ended 4 months ago.

I've already started on the road to a new career. Working on becoming a crime fighter!

I'm with you there. I've just about it with printing. Seems like you and I are kind of in the same boat, in that seemingly no matter how hard we work and how much good we do (or try to do) things just end up going sour anyway.

At least at this point thats how I feel.
