Rats can't swim after all

Ahh, the familiar smell of the sinking ship. My office is undergoing a restructure befroe it tries to appear as a phoenix from the ashes. Everyone with any talent has jumped - we have only two from five senior managers now, and many good staff have hightailed it. This morning, staff arrived to find in their inboxes little emails apologising that ( Read more... )

Well, we're now carrying so many vacancies they may even consider employing Aussies ;-p

/me downloads hugs and appreciates them by turning them into a can of coke and some net-time.

Central government is pretty good at removing the fun from office machines. How they missed LJ I do not know, but I am NOT sharing hat information :-D Will add you when I get home though.

well that sucks mightily. Fairly common in private sector but thought that kinda crap was rarer where you were.

Are there any friendly high ups you could advertise your sudden availablity to? Start a bidding war!

Did the other position get filled?

Re-structuring is the one method remaining to the public sector for moving undesireables, or encouraging them to take an interest in their jobs once more. The dreaded words, "priority talent pool" have been drifting around the office.
I did have an amusing moment just now, when the consultant came to ask if I wanted to know whether I hadn't got a letter. I said that I was sure someone would explain to me at some pont. She told me that HR had assured her that the person responsible for those in my grade would contact me to explain what could happen, and I responded "What? the one who resigned last week from stress and has yet to be replaced?"

oh dear. Maybe ask to speak to the person responsible for the next grade up instead & while you are there scare them into moving you to that grade.

Oh heck.

From what you've said though you're not out of a job unless I've mis-read it somewhere?

When are you next up here? I promise I will cheer you up then!

I think the next time I see you may be WGF. Though I will be considerably cheered up at that point, if Alexis follows through on his threat to wear the PVC trousers. They lace all the way up the outside, actually. Perhaps, for extra cheer, you could do him up as The Crow? Admittedly, the horror of that thought will keep me awake nights for a while, but there you are.

If anyone turns up at WGW as the Crow they get laughed at, pointed at and completely ostracised before their ass is run out of Whitby. It's quite amusing.

*hugs you hard* i'd say 'come over immediately', but this is now a plague house and very contagious. so, until it's safe... *virtual hugs* and, god, set fire to the place. do it immediately.

Oh babe! How awful!

It's so frustrating when the ground shifts underneath you without warning. How did the mix up between formal chat and competancy interview happen. Did they change their minds before you got there or did you read the invite email too quickly? There might be basis to complain to HR if they didn't actually tell you what the structure was.

That aside, make sure you talk to Chi, maybe her department would have some positions going? And if not, maybe she can keep an ear out for you or place words in the right ears about you.

Maelstrom in 2.5 weeks, who's queen? You have your own Walsingham and everything! What could not be grand about that!??!!!??!

I reackon you are going to have a blast at M, but we must make sure to find you after time out, there's not really very much reason for us to talk to you IC, but OC we'd love to see you.

And you are loved very much by lots of friends and lover type people! Even if the stinky government is being blind AND stupid in not recognising your greatness.

Does that help?

Nah - it was a bit of a mix on both sides - I got an email a day before saying that they would probably concentrate on the answers I gave in the application, but I got as much notice as anyone else.

Might speak to Chi - I meant to tell you that we did finally meet up for lunch and a good natter. She thinks we'll either totally love each other or despise each other when we meet properly IC.

We'll see whether the Lyceum takes off - with our motto of free learning for everyone, we may even see you IC - never know. But yes, do drop by our tent afterwards. I'll not be moving around too much, and have been told to find out about non-combatant status, since I will probably have to have an operation on my knee whcih will put me out for a bit.

Oh gosh, really, an operation! You really went whole hog on the injury thing didn't you! Ouch!

I'm so glad you met Chi. I think she's lovely, I hope you got that vibe too. She's stupidly busy at the moment but I'm sure you understand why better than I do. I wave general flags of support in her direction and occaisionally she's rational enough to explain for dummies what's happening for her. :) If she has enough time, I'm sure she'd be happy to put feelers out for you, she likes being helpful and usually will if she can!

I didn't realise about the education for all platform, so maybe we will. However, I'm one of the brawns of our operation so probably won't get to talk to you too much. Pheh, we'll see what happens, fingers crossed we may get to natter IC.

And if not, there's always b'fast each morning.
