Slow-arse antivirus software

AVG was giving me an error so I decided to following the instructions in this support post. After the first step (uninstalling AVG) was completed, I discovered just how much it had been slowing down my PC, so at the moment I'm downloading Avast! to try that instead.

Computers. Can't live with them, wouldn't have a job without them.

We pay for AVG and we love it. Of course, our computers are desktops, so that might make the difference.

Mine's a desktop too! Of course, it is a couple of years old...

Let me know how it works. We use AVG Free here at home (v9.0 or so) and have little trouble with it. However, my old computer seems to be gagging on Zone Alarm, so I'm not sure what to do about that.
