[video] First Experiment.

[When the phone clicks on, it is sitting on a table in one of Abax's upscale clothing stores, at about waist high, and tilted slightly upwards to show a wide shot of the rear of the store. Tesla is standing just off of center from the camera, in front of a floor length mirror, turned sideways from the screen. He's dressed in a pair of black dress ( Read more... )

How unfortunate for you.

I'm quite certain I've never heard of you either though.

It's nothing personal, you all just start to look the same after a while. Only a handful stand out.

So, why should I recognize your name?

Well, not to brag but, I created the foundation for the entire modern electrical grid. For starters.

[There's a little pause as he considers what she said.]

'You all.' Hmm. Not human, then?

Now that is a name to claim.

I suppose I have attracted a bit of fame over the years.

Can't really argue against the claim, so I'll just skip ahead and put in my request for a new power source.

Oh believe me, that will be the first thing I do.

Ah, that was an interesting introduction. It managed to make me laugh, if nothing else ☆

You're claiming to be the inventor and engineer, Nikola Tesla? That would make you the first historical figure I've spoken with since arriving here.

Well, I should hope so. I'd hate be following in someone else's footsteps. And I claim nothing but the truth.

[Slipstream replies by video, so there is a glow of back-lit, red optics, sheen of well-maintained metal face plating, and black-enameled lip components. Said features approximate an expression of disdain. It's probably the ego.]

I thought only Americans did ridiculous things like name their children after units of magnetic flux.

[There's a little pause before Tesla answers, his head tilted slightly to the side as he studies the strange face before him. Hmm.]

That's actually named for me, not the other way around. But more importantly, aren't you a curious thing...

Of course it is.

[He's the actual showman-scientist, at least a version of him from the universe of organics with pointy teeth. She gives a mild glare, then lifts her toe-tag held between two sharp, talon-like digits. Yes, she saved it.]

Let's say I might show you mine, if you show me yours.

[Tesla rolls his eyes and pats at the pockets of his jacket, eventually drawing out the toe tag from one of them and holding it up, facing it away from the screen, of course.]

That hardly seems like a fair exchange, providing information on the off-chance you'll reciprocate.

[ Here, have a nice picture of a cold rooftop with blowing snow that might be near a hospital of some sort. Sitting in the foreground is a Japanese guy in short sleeves and leather pants who claps a couple times very slowly and then shakes his head. ]

Whatever you could do before coming here is not going to work here. Not even the aliens can really make things that are off come back on. No matter what your name is or what you were able to do, things don't work they way they are suppose to work unless whoever the hell runs this joint lets them work.

But go ahead and do what you want.

Really, everyone seems so willing to just give up and accept that things won't work.

I can't even imagine that.

Oh yeah, because everyone and their friend that has been here for a few months haven't tried anything at all.

[ Eye roll. Yes, he is a punk and Japanese to boot so there is a definite street roll to his Rs. ]

Look. There are robots. There are monsters and aliens and people who can lift a whole building with a thought and none of them have found a way to make things work. All we've been finding are more questions and getting some kind of game played with us every other week.

And I'm saying that all of that, all those attempts, were all well and good.

But I haven't tried yet, and I'm better.
