Lots of food from yummy places in Pittsburgh

Amazingly, these pictures are not all from Zenith and Quiet Storm this time.

In September, we tried Double Wide Grill on East Carson Street in the Southside cause we heard it had tons of good veg options (and it does). My only complaint here is that even when they aren't busy, the service is VERY slow. The food is good though, and it's not the worst service ever, so it's definitely worth eating there.

We got the seitan wings with honey garlic sauce to share. They were AWESOME:

We each got a bowl of their vegetarian chili with corn bread - also very delicious:

We also went back to Hoi Polloi on the Northside cause Teddy had only tried it once. Teddy got a veggie burger:

I got some type of quesadilla with corn:

I noticed when meeting my new friend, Takami, at Kiva Han for Japanese-English exchange that they actually had a lot of veg food. So Teddy and I went there and tried the food.

We got some delicious biscotti and shared:

Then, we got a baked tofu sandwich. It was good, but there wasn't enough sauce, and the sauce wasn't very flavorful:

Mad Mex has a new, very yummy and very bad for you appetizer called Pennsyltucky Fried Tofu. It's very big and fried, so it's best for sharing:

We also recently discovered and tried a place called Make Your Mark in Point Breeze. I tried it cause one of my student's parents works there:

This is a goat cheese, carrot, green bean and asparagus panini. Teddy wasn't all about the goat cheese, but I LOVED it. It was one of the best sandwiches I ever ate. It came with couscous, but unfortunately, it wasn't very good:

I got these corn and poblano pepper quesadillas with salsa. It was really good:

We went back again and tried some of their standard menu items (as opposed to specials.) I got the black bean and sweet potato quesadillas, which were good, but too cheesy. I like lightly cheesy quesadillas, generally. It came with this really interesting apple salsa:

Teddy got the fontina, mozarella, spinach and tomato panini. This panini was cheesier than the goat cheese one, but had it been less cheesy I think I would have enjoyed it more. He got it with potato salad. We didn't like the potato salad much:

We also tried out Quiet Storm because the quesadilla at Make Your Mark made Teddy want to have QS's quesadillas. We each got one of the soups of the day to try. One was Cajun Vegetable, but I forget what the other was. As always, their soups were delicious:

We shared their new Lucky 7 Quesadilla (lots of veggies) and their Blackadilla (black bean and sweet potatoes). We've had the Blackadilla before, so I just took a picture of the new one, which was delicious:

We went to Zenith for Sunday brunch. Teddy got these cabbage rolls. They were way too sweet and not that great:

I got the curry wrap, which was yummy. It came with a side of orzo. I really hate orzo - it makes me feel like I'm eating maggots. It's so slimy:

The best part of Sunday brunch is getting to eat a bunch of their salads and cakes:

Also from Zenith, vegetable soup:

African Peanut Stew, which is yummy:

Black bean burger with pineapple salsa. Teddy said it wasn't as good as mine. Their burgers are so big, too, that you have to like cut them in half:

This is the Tofishy sandwich, which doesn't taste any different from the Toficken other than the fact it has a different breading and different sauce options. It's good:

Lentil Roast, Cranberry chutney and curry potatoes. The lentil roast was not good unless it had the chutney on it - it was too dry without it, but the chutney and the potatoes were awesome:

Another week, we had BBQ tofu sandwiches. Unfortunately, they didn't taste like BBQ tofu, they tasted like sloppy joes. It wasn't the best:

Another week, Teddy got an eggplant sandwich. He didn't like it much cause the eggplants was very seedy and was cut too thickly:

I got some sort of tofu with sauce, vegetables and rice. It was good. My only complaint is that Zenith always uses the same tofu - frozen, thawed and then baked, which gives it a chewy, meaty texture. I like it on sandwiches, but it's not as good for Asian style dishes, in my opinion:

Here is some type of soup - I think mushroom? This is also from Zenith:

We both got the Tofilly. It was super good and tasted like a pizza:

The following visit, we got tortilla soup:

I got the Tofishy and Teddy got the jalapeno hummus wrap. It had a bad hummus to vegetable ratio - way TOO much hummus:

That's all for food from July-October.
