I think I just saw an insect breathe.

If so, I'd like to tell you about it: there was some sort of translucent yellowish sac that made up over half of its body, growing larger and then slightly shrinking, less rapid after several seconds, under a hard shell that was sort of moving up and down over the breathing part like a poorly balanced hat.

I believe I understand quite a bit of sadism* these days. Most of the people I've cared about I would sincerely physically damage if social circumstances were much different. I reckon I realized life was going to be especially horrific for me sometime around the eighth grade. I've managed to keep myself really aware of that, and usually about once every two months I do something terrible, horrible no good and very bad and it really sets in. Keeps me sharp and colorful.
