We were having a music conversation at lunch the other day. As I always do, I sat there silent, not really offering any input, rather just analyzing what everyone else was saying in my head...I tend to do that alot-- be more of a listener and just take everything in, rather than jump into a conversation. I will agree with you and say that you make many excellent points. I listen to a pretty broad spectrum of music(punk, metal, harcore, anythingelse-core, rock, ska, etc), and what is popular in terms of punk is basically the same songs that boybands were singing 3 years ago. It has poppy basslines and guitar hooks, usually the singer along with other band members are attractive and even down to the way they dress is an image, to compare NFG to how I saw them the first time to where they are now they have changed, their clothes looked old and worn just like mine, but its like now they can wear a shirt twice and throw it out. Also you would never heard Hopesfall, Shai Hulud, the Hope Conspiracy, or Converge on alternative radio just because those styles are still very abbrassive. When the Suicide Machines had radio success their style was a change from the hardcore/skacore blend on the previous 2 records. Even AFI has modified their sound to be slightly more pop audience friendly. Most people are completely missing the point of ( ... )
