That they were turning it into a profitable organization is a far cry from a bad thing. If they make profit, they can, in theory, improve the con in ways a non-profit wouldn't be able to. The problem is, they have a money-grubbing bastard running the thing who is doing absoultely everything wrong. I hope someone gets rid of him. Don't care how, as long as someone who has a brain runs AX.
At this point, I'm seriously considering not even going. I don't want to line this asshole's pockets.

I'm just worried that if they DO turn for profit (especially with this douche running things) prices will pretty much EXPLODE and many people (including me) will just not be able to go anymore because we can't afford it.

Do you know if the whole thing about him offending Orange Range into not coming is true?

I don't know what's going to come of it. I really, really want to go, since it's like my tradition, but if it's just too horrible, then no. ):

I'm not involved in any of this, so I don't know, but I can tell you that if he DID insult someone in Japan's entertainment business, there won't BE any entertainment from Japan at AX this year. Word will spread quickly that AX insulted someone, and no one will want to do any dealings with them. If it's true, the fucker dug himself a hole and he is not going to get out of it any time soon. According to rumors Morning Musume refused to have jack shit to do with AX and pulled their DVD contract because of the way their rep was treated.
And if Momu is boycotting them, so is everyone else in Japan, essentially.

Well this is the latest I've heard on Orange Range. And with everything else that I've seen happen so far (especially AX board censorship, seen that happen first hand) I'm inclined to believe it's true.

And I LOVE Orange Range.

I've never been really big into anime (okay, well not since I was a young'un, haha), but this upsets me. Whether or not the rumors are true. I'm a Canadian, and I have never once in my life gone to a big con or even had friends who were interested in the same things as me - which is part of the reason I'm moving to Vancouver, which is 2.5 hours from Seattle - and while I was living there I was planning on going to all the big cons on the west side that I could, meeting people, expanding my 'network', having contacts that I could relate to for once. AX was on my list for 2011, and even though that's a ways off, I'm terrified to see what might happen in the next 17 months, let alone the next 5. :(

Chances are things are getting blown hugely out of proportion, but that doesn't make it suck any less. I sincerely hope they didn't make any more faux-pas as far as Japan's music industry goes -- I mean, all of North America has had its troubles in dealing with Japanese rock stars (i.e. when George Strombolopoulous of MTV interviewed Dir en ( ... )

Wow, I didn't know you were moving to the states! Also, I demand you post more gyaru pictures. (Us plus sized gals gotta stick together! <3)

I really really hope everything is just smoke up the ass and my beloved con will be perfectly fine and healthy, but it doesn't look good, not at all. And this whole disrespecting Japanese bands has to STOP. Immediately.

I'm not moving to the US, just really close to it. :D Vancouver, or at least the part I'm living in, Richmond, is like 45 minutes from the US border. XD Hello Washington. I will, soon. D: Maybe next weekend, but I work a LOT right now holy crap and the problem is I start really early... and I now work in a downtown office. So while I do get to dress nice, I can't go all-out gyaru or people would just... well, fire me for one, and for 2 not take me seriously. XD So this weekend I shall work my gyaru booty and post some pics for you. 8D PS whereabouts do you live in the US anyway? I'm guessing somewhere close to Cali?

Agreed. Agreed hardcore. D:

Aaah, I need a job, badly. I live in LA, (Hawthorne, actually) California, so I'm like twenty minutes from downtown convention center where it's held.

I didn't even know there was a CEO of AX... XD

Honestly, as a con, I don't really like the atmosphere AX already gives out. It's not their fault completely but perhaps being a profitable company would bring improvements. As for the CEO guy, I wouldn't be surprised if he spends so much money since CEO's are known to blow away money like crazy but I think some other rumors may be false like the whole talking smack about Orange Range and what not. I mean, how could word of him smack talking travel so far? Anyway, I doubt they'll cancel it but we'll see! I want to go to AX this year... D:

Someone made a comment along the lines of
"Why does AX need a CEO"
I lol'd.

I dot know, I think a lot of it is nostalgia since I've been going since I was maybe 15 or 16, and now I'm 20. Like I said before my biggest fear of AX becoming a profit is, pricing EXPLODING for badges, hotel, EVERYTHING.

Because I can tell the current CEO is the type of asshole to exploit everything as much as he possibly can to line his pocket to the max.

I think the smack talking was an insider leak to the net. I know Momu won't have anything to do with them, and there has to be a reason for that, so I'm not putting the Orange Range thing past him.

I really don't think things would go SO FAR as to cancel the con. I want to go to AX this year! I want YOU to go to AX this year! I miss your face, Dolly.

you know Jesse and I have been talking about how AX isn't as fun as it used to be. The atmosphere isn't the same. There weren't as many cool quirky shops as years before. Long Beach was my fav. Either way I don't think we're going to go this year. I think we'll go to Vegas instead. I had more fun there.
