She has hands like white hot steam that could melt me like glass; long nimble fingers I wish would play along my skin. She loves her hair, though she pretends that she couldn’t give a damn how it looks at any given point in time. She likes to cover herself up with this tough-as-nails persona when she’s really impossibly sweet on the inside. Her eyes give away more than she could possibly know, even if she has learned to school her face to give away almost nothing: her eyes never lie. She has a million different smiles, from the are you shitting me? kind to the cocky kind to the i’m having the best time of my life and you’re the best thing in it one. I see all these things, because I’ve been taught to observe and act if and when appropriate. Crushes are not like emergencies - the existence of a crush does not automatically call for an immediate reaction. And so I do nothing, enduring this crash course in surviving a hopeless crush, an introduction to heartbreak. How do I know there's no hope? I’ve only seen the latter smile once - and it was today, when she looked right past me, at Jake.
