dude, i love this. are we ever going to see more of it?
i know i commented on fanfiction.net, but i wanted to re-emphasize the fact that there's an iron horse music hall where i live. not at all club-ish like it is in the story, but still. also, i love antigone rising. my friend introduced me to them and now i love them.
but, yeah. the important thing is that i love love love this story!!
dude. i do live in northampton. i'm not a smithie, but i may as well be. (i.e., i'm a senior in high school but i am in the smith college chorus. i'm kind of a smithie at heart.) are you a smithie??
ha! I suspected as much. I'm a smithie alum, living in nyc now, so we won't be meeting at the haymarket for smoothies anytime soon, but we still got that happy valley goodness down in our hearts :) word! I did lift the name of the iron horse for my story, cause I needed a name for a club, and that was the first thing that sprang to mind. though you're right that the iron horse isn't really a club like the one I described in my story, it was the first place I ever saw ani difranco, dar williams, and antigone rising...
ps, if you are standing in front of the iron horse and you look down center st to your left, you will see a big brick house (behind the hungry ghost)...that's where I used to live :) baldwin babes 4-eva.
“I just thought I was gonna be the butch one,” <- Hilarious line.
I love your description of the music, becoming it and all. Violas are one of the most gorgeous instruments on earth. I've been saving my money for an electric one for a long time, but decided to wait on that and just buy a better viola. You almost have me changing my mind. (A slight backstory, I played my regular viola with a pickup, amp, and during one song distortion box with overdrive for the battle of the bands at my highschool like 2 years ago. Much like that, with the punked out look and the semi-but-not-quite-yet-technically girlfriend waiting in the audience.)
And even more off topic, if I had any chance of getting in, I would so go to Smith. From everything I've heard it's amazing.
it's very cool for me to know that a real live viola player liked my viola descriptions! I am SO not musical, but I dated a viola player in high school and she was hot. her viola was not electric, and she never got punked out, but it was still hot. I'd love to see something like this for neela, rather than the stupid uptight surgical rotation that's throwing her back into her old insecurities (not to mention the ugly face masks and safety goggles!!!)
and yes, smith is a fan-bloody-tastic place for all us commie-pinko-leftist-radical-intellectual types. also, dyke disneyland. if you want to apply, you should. yeah, it is hard to get into, but it's also a very small school and has the ability to deeply consider every candidate as a whole person and not just a laundry list of grades and scores. there are plenty of people there who aren't superstars on paper, but were able to sell themselves in other ways (like a really greast interview). what have you got to lose?
