If you're looking for a discussion, post a comment here or there, and I'm happy to take it up with you. If you're looking to spout lines unbacked by ( Read more... )

So where does the quest for peace go? tirinian August 6 2006, 23:10:16 UTC
Ok. I went and read some of your blog, although not a ton of it, and I admit to being undereducated on mid-east policy. My best understanding of the situation, in analogy form ( ... )

Well, first of all, it was Gulliver's land. Had been for the last several millennia. Gulliver's people have always lived on the land, even though it was occupied by one empire or another for 19 centuries. A deal was made to get the last empire off the land, which gave a fraction of the land to Gulliver, so Gulliver could bring his long-lost family home to be safe, and a majority of the land to another people, who were the descendants of a previous occupying power. When this deal happened, the Lilliputians ganged up with all the neighboring countries to try to evict Gulliver; Gulliver defeated them, and took some of their land, then gave some back. Then again. Then all the countries gathered their militaries to defeat Gulliver, so Gulliver cold-cocked them, and captured more land. Then they attacked back, and Gulliver took more land, then gave some more back ( ... )

You could spare the trolls the bother and use Clyde to speak for them. "Clyde, insult abce."

Yes yes, it's Gulliver's land. I had a footnote in the original comment about that, but decided I don't care about the historical justifications or righting historical wrongs, on either side. I'm not planning to start packing all the conquerors in the US up and send them back to Europe or wherever and return the land to the Native Americans, and that's a far more recent historical wrong. I care about stopping the toothpicks and the rampages, and will happily accept any agreement about whose land is whose that ends them ( ... )

Okay. I took "what do you think the plan is for convincing them Goliath is an ok neighbor" as being a roundabout way of saying Israel should disappear if she can't convince her neighbors ( ... )

Ok. "It's ours, we're keeping it, and we'll beat you up as often as we have to to prove it" is an acceptable position. It's just not "a path to peace." :-)

I would worry that, in the long run, it's also not sustainable, because sooner or later Israel won't have the upper hand. But I don't have a better option either. I was just wondering if you actually had one in mind.
