I was chatting about politics with my parents today. I try not to do that, but sometimes I have politics on my mind and I feel masochistic. What do you think of Dennis Kucinich? After a brief glance on his positions on numerous issues, though admittedly this was all on wikipedia, it would appear that he and I agree on many issues...at least that seems to be the case so far. Your entry reminded me of a lecture from my Congressional politics class last semester where my professor lamented the fact that a significant portion of the electorate votes with what he somewhat jokingly called the "Who I'd like to have a beer with" method. I don't recall the percentage, but I do remember being surprised, frustrated, and angry because of how high it was. My curiosity has had me hunting through my old notebook for the last 20 minutes. If you're interested, I'll let you know what I find, if I find it.

I don't have much use for a moral compass, but I must admit that gravitas is important to me when I select a candidate. I have a soft spot for oratory, but mostly I'd like a candidate to transcend the nauseating, grueling process of getting elected, and say things that describe a nation I would want to belong to. Elections feel too much like PR campaigns.
