They have the online list posted, that's mainly what I'm working with. I emailed them asking for help and all they did was refer me back to the list.

Search online for farms in the Aberystwyth area? Sometimes they rent out converted barns and stuff, but they don't always advertise, so it's a matter of ringing up and asking if they have any accommodation or cottages for rent on their property.

Would be perfect for a cat, though. Something tells me Penygraig Farm used to rent, but I can't tell you if they still do.

I'll try to search for farms. I hope some of them have email as the time difference is difficult to deal with.

Thanks.

I'm in Aberystwyth (and looking for a place to live for summer--that's even harder, ugh.) How cheap do you need it to be? The accomodation for next year is starting to dry up a bit, but there will be some when you get here if nothing else--I'm not sure about cat friendly places but I'm sure there are some!

One thing is that you probably don't have to find someone specific to room with you--a lot of places here will just rent out a big house by the room, and it's sort of luck of the draw but at least you're not liable for a whole big place on your own.

If I hear of anyone with space for the fall I'll let you know. :)

I understand the summer thing. I had to find a place myself for the summer because I wanted to stay at my job, and I lucked out because one of my professors needed a housesitter for the summer.

As I've yet to hear back from the financial aid office in Aber, I don't know my budget even! The cheaper the better, so long as it's in a safe place, but if it's more expensive, I'll just have to make do.

I do hope to secure something before I get there, since otherwise I'd have to book into a b&b, using up money I could spend elsewhere.

Thank you. I need all the help I can get. I'm going to try phoning next week for the listing on the accommodation list that don't have email. That's difficult because of the time difference. :)

I just heard stuff from the fin. aid office today--the term just started up again yesterday so they weren't really working for Easter. ;) Things seem to run between 50-75/week, which isn't too hideous. And there aren't really any terribly UNSAFE places in Aber, so you should be okay wherever--it's more a matter of transportation and being able to get around. Without a car you want to be in town or on campus, rather than in one of the outlying villages.

Believe me, I sympathise about the time difference! I'm from Oregon, and I was working full time the year before I got here, so whenever I had to ring the university about something it involved getting up stupidly early in the morning and trying to be coherent. :P

Hm. I haven't tried this so I don't know how well it works, but if you go here:
http://www.ukpropertyshop.co.uk/s/Ceredigion/students_agents_Aberystwyth.shtml
you can send a query to all the different letting agents in town letting them know just what you need...might be a place to start?

If you can get hold of the Cambrian News (online, I'd hope) that has a good renting section.

Good luck with the Archives Course! I did it three years ago and loved every minute. I hope you have a great time!
