on a day of significant passings

Rumour has reached my ears that The Bay has been closed down. Denizens of Abeystwyth, can you throw any light on this? Ok, it wasn't the best pub in the town, but it was an institution of long standing that got me through many a night.

As far as I know Brains have taken the decision to close the Bay - staff were given two days notice that their jobs - and for some who lived there, their homes - would be finished. If you're on facebook there's a group there which has a bit more info: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?src=fftb#/group.php?gid=108815069392&ref=ts and also more on the Aber Pub Guide: http://aberpubs.blogspot.com/2007/10/bay-y-bae.html

Sorry, all I've heard is...probably what you've heard. Via facebook and that.

Tis a terrible thing. It'll live on in that node you wrote, though?

Heh. Ispent a few nights at the Bay during my three years at Aber. It'll be sad if it's gone!

(The Cambrian and it's cocktails are still in existance though, aren't they? I'd really really hate to think they'd been lost...)

But...but...the BAY! No more windy nights staggering along, battered with alcohol, battered by the sea-front winds that ripped right through 20 layers of clothing, leaving your hair looking as though it had been mussed by angry apes?
No more slipping in disco sludge at 4am and not caring because you drank 13 bottles of £1 alcopop?
No more laughing at the toilet graffiti?
No more filling the jukebox and playing pool?
Man. That makes me a saaaaad panda.

Heard the same as you did, that Brains decided to close it down and the people who worked there weren't given much notice. I...don't actually like going there, but I realise it was a cooler place before this year and that a lot of people will be left fairly bereft. ;)
