It does take awhile - remember, a patient usually has a boatload of years of trauma.

A councilor; not a psychiatrist, so not a medical doctor, though of course she can direct me toward one should she feel I need one.

You don't actually need a psychiatrist except for the prescription of medications. Therapists and counselors are awesome.
