THE DOCTOR → DR. THEODORE ASHBURY

Dr. Theodore Ashbury is a pioneer in medical technology, from small to big. He specializes in adolescent and multicultural psychology. He was proclaimed a genius at age four, when he rebuilt his father's entire DNA model correctly and added onto it by fixing the curve of the helix. He was privately tutored since then, enrolled in a private school to learn by his own means. He ran the teachers through and excelled at math, science, and language in his elementary years and through his high school years, also took to psychology and computer science like a fish to water. He graduated high school at age thirteen and went straight into college.

In his first few years, he majored in psychology and minored in science. He graduated at seventeen, and went back to study further.

At age twenty-three, he graduated with a doctorate in psychology, and put it to work as a psychiatrist and therapist.

He got married to a woman named Elisabeth Jane Smith shortly after starting his own practice. She and Theodore started going back to medical school, to obtain medical doctorates and become MDs. Only a year later, Elisabeth announced that she was pregnant. There was much rejoicing in the Ashbury family, as Theodore looked forwards to a baby. Tragedy would strike all too soon, however, as Elisabeth grew ill steadily. She delivered her baby with much difficulty, and passed away weeks afterward, leaving him alone with his nearly newborn son.

Theodore became very protective of his son, Ritsuka, and raised him alone. In between taking care of him and working, he worked himself to the bone at school, the experience forcing him through his residency. He graduated when Ritsuka was five.

At the age of ten, a horrible accident occurred, and although Theodore was able to save him from complete mortal peril, Ritsuka lost all memory of his life. He was only ten. The next few months was spent at his son's side, constantly worrying. Once he was well enough, they settled back into Theodore's hometown, where he met the future Amelia Ashbury. She cared for his son as much as he did, and their love blossomed into his second marriage.

They now live happily together.

Theodore, in his time as a doctor and father, looks after many children and teenagers as part of his job. He took Miss Chigusa Kusaka under his wing upon finding her abandoned and abused, finding her gift for medicine quite a blessing. He also met her sister, Naminé, and cared for her as her doctor and therapist. He met Riku through his wife, and forged a close bond with the young man. They share information with each other, wherein Riku tells him of scuffles with other members of mafia and smugglers and he plans to take preemptive action so injuries are minimal to the members and the public.

Troubled children are who Theodore identifies with best, it seems. Zuko and Ciel, two of his foremost patients that he worked with, are very close to his heart, but also very... prone to trouble. Most of them are--even the families he treats, like the Britannia family and Riku's family.

Although he doesn't partake in mafia and speakeasy business directly, he does make sure everyone is healthy on all sides: Theodore knows very well that he can't hope to change someone's mind if it's addled, and that someone with a poor body can't possibly make the right decisions. He's smart enough to know that although he can try and point someone in the right direction, they may not walk that way. Therefore, in politics, he is a neutral spectator. He really only cares about his family and his patients.
