Samuel Pepys would have had so much fun with the internet. Here's a selection of recent tweets.
"I heard the King’s speech to the House; but he speaks the worst that ever I heard man in my life, worse than if he read it all."
"Sir Thomas Chamberlin tells me that it is very probable, as well as most necessary, that we fall out with the Dutch."
"It is hard not only to tell how we know when we do a thing really or in a dream, but also to know the difference between one and the other."
"We rose and parted, both of us angry, but I contented, because I knew all of them must know I was in the right."
"I found the little dog so little that he could not reach our bitch, which I am sorry for, for it is the finest dog that ever I saw." [I want a video]
"I in great pain by a simple compressing of my cods to-day by putting one leg over another as I have formerly done." [He stayed in bed the following morning with a poultice on his cods.]
"He would do my brother all the civility he can; which was to disturb other corps that are not quite rotten, to make room for him." ["To see how a man’s tombes are at the mercy of such a fellow, that for sixpence, “I will justle them together but I will make room for him.”]
"My wife tells me in spiteful manner like a vixen, with a look full of rancour, she would buy a new dress and lace it and make me pay for it."
To other matters. I plan to stay on LJ and go down with the ship, if and when. Everything has been exported to DW but I have no plans to be active there. If LJ bites the dust I might reconsider but my f-list at DW is no more active than my f-list here and I can't see that changing. The other LJ account is permanent and this one remains paid, or whatever they call it now, until June of next year. I won't renew the paid subscription.
I'll spare you my thoughts on the new user agreement.
