I have a theory that patterns are written that way just to confuse novice knitters. Once you get the knack of purling you shouldn't have a problem with it though, it looks quite simple, and pretty!

Might want to put a knit border on your stockinette scarf, it'll curl otherwise. But maybe you knew that?

Well, isn't stockinette simple k1-p1, etc? I figured always start and end with a knit stitch. Do I need to start and end with more than one knit stitch per row?
I appreciate help, always, even if I already know it :)

Stockinette is knit one row, purl one row. K1 P1 will make a ribbed pattern if you're always starting with knit and have an even number of stitches. If you alternate between starting rows with knit and purl stitches you get a seed stitch, like so http://knitting.about.com/od/stitchglossary/g/seedstitch.htm
