Weird head-space

I sometimes find myself in this weird mood where I'm unexpectedly productive, and I actually feel the urge to be productive all the time. And I manage to be more creative then usual when this happens, which is nice. But it doesn't necessarily always feel like I'm actually in a mentally healthy place ( Read more... )

Man, would you believe I haven't explored the libraries in Toronto at all yet? Who's your library targeting based on the books in it?

The target audience is really just generally "people at U of T," and (I actually just checked the mission statement) they actually do specifically focus on providing for leisure reading, and not for study (so it's awesome that I totally picked up on the vibe - they're definitely doing something right).

This translates into having a lot of fiction, obviously, but they also have a *lot* of biography, and a lot of non-academic non-fiction. It's an interesting place, for sure.

The library is also planning to do some sort of user needs study this summer to figure out what people are actually using the space for, (other than napping :P). It's hard to track resource use when you're not a circulating library, and don't have check-out records to work with, though they've been keeping track of what books they reshelve for quite a while now, so there's some usage data anyway. So we shall see!
