When I started this job, I thought I'd really like it once I figured out exactly what it was that I am responsible for. I think I've figured that part out, and I still don't love it. I like it, and I appreciate that I have a job (god knows there are so many unemployed people our age in the country right now), but I'm also really unfulfilled here

I've switched jobs more than I like, but it's good to find one that you can enjoy at least the basic activity and then demand changes as needed. E.g. if you like making sprockets, but Mr. Spacely is too much of a micro manager, rally with your coworkers to get him to bugger off ;)

Yeah, having too much autonomy is bad when there really is authority - because it means they expect something from you - but you don't know exactly what. That happened when I was working in a school district. Then things got better, but by then I decided to quit.
