i think this is going to be like the OJ trial, but probably much shorter. I can't see how this wouldn't go to trial unless there wasn't enough evidence, or she dropped the charges.
and from what I am hearing, kobe will probably miss a good portion of next season's NBA, which will lend even more attention to the trial. They said on the news that he is the 3rd most sought asfter athlete for endorsements (after michael and tiger)...so this is a lot bigger deal than ray lewis' murder trial. this is HUGE.
You are exaggerating immensely. While false rape charges are of course possible, they are not an every day or frequent occurence.
And women are still subjected to ridicule and disbelief when they come forward with rape charges. I have friends who were raped and did not come forward for this very reason, the experience was horrible enough to deal with, having to relive it and defend yourself against public scrutiny is too much for many women.
There have been a few rape charges at my school over the past several years, and although I do not know for certain which side was telling the truth in every case, I do know that in every case I overheard people talking about how the girl was probably just a slut who changed her mind or she was making the whole thing up just to get attention, etc.. They were ostracized by their peers, who didn't know any more about the story than I.
I totally agree with you. And its this overwhelming attituide of "well she deserved it. she was probably asking for it. she probably dressed slutty or got too drunk & its her fault" that allows thousands of girls every day to not report anything. And those that do - aren't believed. Which is why people like me never did & have to live with guilt over it everyday.
It truly is & seemingly always will be a man's world. At least in the realm of public opinion.
I am sure you are right that my point is exaggerated, and that the frequency of false accusations is rare. I am sure you are also right that the public is still often accusational towards those who come forward with rape charges.
Still, it is a thing that does happen, and therefor, guys have to be aware and be careful. I am mainly maintaining that our legal system has come to the point of overcompensation for past neglegency that has led to the "guilty until proven innocent" attitude. at least in the police station and the courtrooms. much the same way as descrimination laws are inforced today. They are overcompensating for past insufficiencies. Call it poltitcal correctness in the legal system I guess.
still, I am aware that life isn't a cakewalk for women, and it is a terrible thing to go through.
I find that the female in this case IS being doubted and ridiculed. It doesn't really matter if she showed up to his room plastered & naked & doing backflips. Rape is rape. IF she was raped there should be no "oh i feel bad for this poor guy because this girl MIGHT be lying". Maybe she ISN'T lying.
Its this whole "guys have to watch their backs because all females are lying whores who just want to punish them who no one will believe anyway" attitude is exactly why terrified, used, abused 14 year old girls - myself included - let assholes get away with rape every single day. If its false he'll be exonerated. But who would PUT themselves though this for a falsity? I wouldn't even put myself though it for a truth.
I have no idea if she is lying or not, and not caring one way or the other about kobe bryant I'm not just wanting to believe him because he is a celebrity

To be fair - (& to use one of your own famous sayings) we don't know everything. We really don't know exactly WHAT evidence there may or may not be. That's what the courtroom is for. I don't think all that much money can be made from accusing someone famous of rape. So maybe you can write some lame book. After you are proved wrong in a courtroom who is going to buy it? Maybe you can get a couple of million out of a civil suit but big deal to someone who makes more than 25 million a year just in endorsements not including their salary. We really don't know anything about what evidence there may or may not be. And I'm not taking her side necessarily but I don't understand why so many people are just assuming she's lying for some possibility of money that may not ever even come. It would be less stigmatizing & humiliating in this society to be in porn than it is to accuse someone of rape. And if this guy was such a model citizen who does no wrong - what was he doing sleeping with a barely legal chick outside of his marriage?

from what I have heard of Kobe's reputation (and since that is all we have to go on so far) I tend to agree that this case looks iffy right now.
I am sure a lot more suff will come out during the trial.
