I am pro-choice and pro-whatever-the-woman-wants-to-do re: birth.
1) I want women to have bodily autonomy.
2) I think women know what is best for them, and it's not the same for every woman.
3) What another woman chooses to do with her body is not my business.
4) there needs to be less judgment of women's reproductive choices.
5) just because a woman makes a different choice from you does not mean that she is stupid, uneducated, misled, or a tool.
I do have some hostility towards the pro-natural-birth movement because I think it is often complicit in judging/misleading women in order to pressure them into natural birth. similarly, the pro-life movement often pressures, misleads, judges, and outright lies to women in order to get them not to abort.
I think women should be able to choose, thats not a question for me.
when I go into labour I will be going to hospital and getting everyting a hospital can give in term of medication and ever other things to make the birth and bloody easy as I get can get it for both me and the child
I don't think it's selfish. Who's supposed to benefit from one not having an epidural? The reason I think that if I have children I would prefer to avoid having an epidural is almost entirely selfish. Having an epidural reduces one's chances of having a successful vaginal birth and makes one more likely to have a C-section. I've also read that it may increase the risk of vaginal tears. I would rather have several hours of painful unmedicated labour and a swift recovery than a relatively pain free labour but a six week recovery from major surgery. To the best of my knowledge avoiding having an epidural would give me a better chance of achieving this.
And good luck on your several hours. Labour can go on for longer then 'several hours' Sorry I dont need the stress on me nor my child and knowing my stress levels...I think I would explode from without some sort of aid.
