In praise of… ext_6339707 May 28 2023, 20:45:43 UTC
Hi John - hope you’re well.
I’ve long enjoyed your blog, About Faces, as well as your erudite contributions to Superhero Stuff You Should Know. Should you read this, I wanted to praise your knowledge on the history of Batman and its associated characters, especially Two-Face, and to encourage you to consider launching a podcast on the same subject, should your time permit it.
I know there is a superabundance of comic book related podcasts out there to the point of cliché, but I find your views and insights so refreshing as to present something arguably more nuanced and considered than what consumers such as myself are used to (and want so badly to hear!).
I’m trying to get something similar off the ground myself, and I suppose I crave similar voices in the community, such as yours, to be more prominent so as to elevate the tone of debate and discussion around Batman, related material, and comic book culture more generally.
Very best regards.

Hi Rory, sorry for the delay in getting back to you, because this message really meant a lot to me! I have actually been thinking about doing a podcast for the past few years, either about Harvey specifically or the Bat-rogues in general, but I've always been too scatterbrained to make it happen. That, and I am painfully aware these are pretty niche interests and I've never been sure it'd be worth all the effort. Which is why your message here is so important to me, because there actually might be an audience for the kind of nerd shit I'd love to talk about. I shall give it renewed consideration thanks to you. Thanks!

Ha oli la hanau (Happy Birthday!) and I second (pun intended) the informed / artistic insights you offer be given voice in a podcast. The issues around mental wellness post pandemic / Ted Lasso have never been more relevant, and Harvey's recent treatment continues to be refreshingly smart and complex (inviting new analysis!).
