Life is for living

I had a surprisingly good conversation last night, with a friend that I had thought didn't really care about any of the things we were talking about. The conversation is a very underesteemed aspect of the human connection I think. Last night reminded me of a girl's night, not in the sleepover MKA sense, but in the sense that I finally just talked ( Read more... )

who were you talking to?

man, props on writing music. I know guys that have played guitar for years that know tons of other peoples songs, but cant string a few chords together of their own for their life. Color me impressed.

Freud! Holy jeez freud is my favorite. Once your done with psychology of the masses you should read interpretation of dreams. Psychology of the Masses is like the holistic view on psychology, and Interpretation of dreams is the reductionist view, down to the individual. Freud is definitely one of my heroes, and a main reason I want to major in psychology.

You learning guitar and composing is such fucking sweet news. I'm really looking forward to seeing you over summer. Also interested in hearing your perspective on Spain culture, media, and stuff with the war. You seem to be getting the picture in a way that an American wouldn't with our BS media. I'm pretty into current events these days, so maybe we could check out some of the same things this summer; I got a bunch of documentaries on my computer. Later, Cwuth.

True dat. I usually only watch Antenna 3 because supposedly it's the most neutral of the 3 main news stations (we don't have cable) but there is a definite twist they put on the news, or rather, what they choose to show. Once you mention it, that sucks. Objectivity is hard to find these days.

YOU TOO NOAH!
Likewise.

Well, given where my political opinion lies these days, things that cast the US and its administration in a negative light are mostly TRUE, so it'd probably be right up my alley. Plus, here, it's hard to hear any issue from the perspective of most of the country (against CAFTA, against force in Iraq unless imminent danger, which we weren't) or of the working class, who often are the most affected by news issues (Bush's tax plans, social security plans, health care plans). As far as I can tell, it's extremely biased in many ways (for example, the framing of the election as between two candidates), and the dissident opinions or perspectives from the far left are given either little to no airtime.

See the documentary "Manufacturing Consent" for an intro to Chomsky's analysis of the media and the NY Times, and how it functions.
