Kate is Aaron's mother. Period. The End. I don't understand why people insist on arguing otherwise. Excellent meta, chica.

Most of the lie that Jack had created for the press and Oceanic Airlines had to do with preventing any officials from searching the area for more survivors. But his lie about Kate and Aaron was done as a favor . . . for Kate. The episode called (5.04) "The Little Prince" featured a flashback that made it clear Kate had begged Jack to support a lie that she was Aaron's mother so that she could keep him for herself as some kind of solace for the trauma they had endured, while leaving the island. The lie about Aaron was not about protecting him. It was generated for Kate's own selfish reasons.

A few months after returning to the U.S., Jack and Kate finally met Carole Littleton, Claire's mother, at the funeral services for Christian Shephard. Instead of informing the Australian woman that she had a grandson, both kept their mouths shut. Over two-and-a-half years later, Kate finally realized that keeping Aaron was both selfish and wrong. She turned the three year-old over to his grandmother, who was in L.A. to file a lawsuit ( ... )

There is no excuse for Kate. She used Aaron for her own personal use. Period. She and Jack had a chance to hand Aaron over to his grandmother six months after leaving the island. They didn't and continued the lie for another two years or so. There is no excuse for Kate (and to an extent, Jack, Sayid, Sun and Hurley) did. She's guilty. Period.

Wow! You actually wrote an article that justified Kate's lie about Aaron and keeping him from his grandmother for nearly three years? This has to be truly disgusting.

Kate and the Oceanic Six had no real reason to lie about Aaron's parentage. They could have told the truth about him and lied about the island's existence. And since Claire had disappeared, under the Smoke Monster's sway, I could see why they could have regarded Claire as good as dead.

But what they did to Aaron, especially Kate, I found their actions despicable. Kate had exploited an innocent child in order to use him as some kind of emotional blanket. Jack supported her lie. And the other Oceanic Six survivors didn't even bother to question this decision. Even though Kate ended up returning Aaron to his grandmother, I'm still disgusted over what happened. Especially since so many fans, even to this day, are still making excuses for Kate.
