[027 - Auld Lang Syne | Video] (BACKDATED TO THE 31ST)

Jan 02, 2012 00:02

[Buffy's turned the camera on and is showing off a pile of presents on her bed. She turns the camera back to herself and she's kind of beaming, a sincere excited spark in her hazelgreen eyes. She's a little dressed up, her hair up in a purposely and precisely messy bun.] Wow. Thanks, everyone. Really. I wasn't expecting- It means a lot. [Slight ( Read more... )

[ Voice : Private ]

Happy New Year, sweetheart. Hope the party works out.

[He's not actually trying to annoy her this time, his voice steady and to the point, the message not lasting longer than it takes to record it. He wasn't sure if he should say anything after what happened in the gym, and he isn't sure why he did even after he hits send; he's not sure he wants to know, either, not consciously. He's having a hard enough time being lonely without giving it the power of looking it right in the face.]

[There's a significant delay in her response. A couple of minutes that seem like a long time to her.]

Thanks. Dean. [So maybe it's a little weird right now. But not especially. She isn't even angry about the sweetheart remark right now. Not after The Gym Incident and the awkward she feels.] You seem like the potential party type, why the no-go? [The tone in her voice is a little reserved, as if she kinda wants him to go but kinda doesn't. See above re: Awkward.]

[If he's supposed to be acting a little weird, he doesn't seem to have gotten the memo. His reply is a bit on the slow side, too, but other than that he sounds pretty normal. He is, apparently, going to ignore that The Gym Incident ever happened for as long as she is.]

I need my beauty sleep, [he lies, because of course he knows she doesn't really want him there. Truthfully, he's not really sure he wants to be there - and he's definitely sure he doesn't want to go topside.] Face like mine doesn't just happen on its own, you know.

[She sounds more at ease now, a much quicker reply, and you can almost hear the smirk in her voice. Buffy's sure he's deflecting and lying, but she doesn't seem to mind right now. As long as he doesn't bring up.. Certain Things, it's of the good.] Uh huh.

Speaking of sleep, I'm pretty sure that the.. [There's a sound of her ruffling through things then picking up a box.] "Realistic Ocean Sounds" will be both ocean-y and realistic. Might even help with the relaxing.

Any excuse for a get together. [...he may or may not be drinking. May or may not be. Either way it's so minimal it's not even evident.

...not really.

[She can kind of tell something is off with him, but it's not obvious that he's been drinking to her. Yet.] That's my reasoning on it. We don't do enough things involving potential "fun" here. All work and no play..

[He licks his lips] ...Any opportunity for people to get out and meet other people. That's what happens. Any opportunity for people to get out, and make new friends and meet...stuff.

[Okay now she can tell he's been drinking. Buffy raises an eyebrow at him. A light smirk at her lips.] Uhhuh.

So, you got the party started a little early, huh?

It sounds positively appalling.

[Buffy needs some stuffy Britishness in her thread life.]

For the record, "Auld Lang Syne" means "old long since." Long ago. It's from the poem by Robert Burns.

Stuffy Britishness is sorely lacking in her Barge-life. aboutpower January 2 2012, 09:05:02 UTC
[She's kind of amused by that. And his know-it-all way of giving her an answer to her question. Buffy raises her eyebrows and smirks a little.] You're really not helping the British stereotype by being anti-fun. [She remembers that he's a Time Lord, but she can't help herself.] Or using phrases like 'positively appalling'. Don't you guys ever relax and embrace your inner party animal?

[Okay, yeah, she's full on teasing him now.]

I must have left it in my other suit.

[The smirk breaks into a smile.] See, you're not totally stuffy.

[Excited-Buffy is go.] Good. It's good that you can. Cause I wasn't thinking it would be much of a party without you.

Should I bring anything?

You can bring a toothbrush and a bottle of jack. Plenty of beer also. No money required. aboutpower January 2 2012, 13:55:28 UTC
Nothing I can think of. Other than maybe more people. Right now the numbers are looking a little on the slim side.

As Narvin said.

[Have the thickest accent in the world as he goes through it-]

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And auld lang syne!

Chorus.-For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
We'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.

It's longer than that but that's the bit everyone cares about.

[Look at that accent. Why is it that the Time Lords lacking the English accent are so much less with the being stuffy?

Nevermind. It's because of the English accent. Duh.]

See now that I hear them I'm wondering why they're so easy to forget. ...Maybe because almost everyone's half past wasted when they sing it. [...] Thanks for clearing that one up.

For the blanket too.

[Technically his is Scottish but maybe there's something in planetary translations.]

I don't think most people bother to remember the words and babble nonsense anyway.

I can bring beverages as well if you like. [He likes a good party.]

[She knows, and thinks that English accents almost always equal stuffyness. Scottish so far, not so much.]

Oh. Yeah! Can't have too many beverages. I think there's a law somewhere about that when New Years is concerned.
