Do you need to schedule an appointment to challenge a gym leader?

I would assume-- however I have never challenged one before.

It would make sense. I wasn't certain how one generally announced their intent to challenge one.

Neither am I. I've heard that some individuals walk right in... but that would seem like poor form.
