Character Info

Personality:

Frances Middleford is fastidious, disciplined and has earned a level of respect in polite society. She’s an austere woman who carries herself with an air of dignity and confidence that others either find intimidating or awe inspiring. She prides herself on both her sharpshooting ability, and her skill with a sword. Despite her outward appearance she has a soft spot for her family, and cares for them a great deal. She’s especially protective of her daughter, Elizabeth, whom she’s grooming to become an ideal lady. She often admonishes others for not living up to certain standards.

When she’s cross it’s nearly impossible to miss it by not only the tone in her voice but also the look in her eyes. Conversely, when someone pleases her she might offer them a slight smile or subdued praise. Although she’s strict on others she asks no less of herself, and is dedicated to her own personal training and routines. She’s observant, forthright, and capable of being discrete like when she first visited with her nephew, Ciel Phantomhive, she pretended not to notice when the other servants were ruining everything they touched but by the end she was sure to ask Sebastian to clean up those previously mentioned messes.

Lady Middleford is also able to assess problems as they arise and take them in stride not giving in too much to hesitation or fear. For example, when Lady Middleford and her family were all aboard a boat and a horde of reanimated corpses began attacking passengers Frances was among one of the first to fight back. She’s very protective of her family and she’s often motivated by a desire to see them succeed and excel. That doesn’t mean that she gives them much slack or room for error. Even her husband, Alexis Leon Middleford, and son, Edward Middleford, look to her for leadership or for approval sometimes.

She gives Ciel an especially difficult time, always reminding him that if he intends to marry her daughter he’s going to have to become a person strong enough to protect her. She also is quick to chide him about his habits, and choice of hair style. Both Sebastian and Ciel receive this sort of reproach for their “slovenly” and “unsightly” appearances deeming that their hair is too long for males to have. She makes it a point to be punctual, often arriving before she’s expected. As a noblewoman she has had to mix and mingle with other members of the peerage, therefore she is quite capable of carrying on a conversation and eloquently so. She's a stickler for rules and avoids temptations.

Strengths/Weaknesses:

Strengths:
- Lady Middleford is in good shape due to her own rigorous training.
- She’s skilled with a variety of weapons. In canon she’s shown possessing a sharp eye for shooting, and is well known for her ability to wield a sword, having bested her own husband in an official match.
- The Marchioness is very observant, and able to manage her time wisely.
- Her confidence in herself is invaluable.
- Not to mention, she also has experience in riding horses and horsemanship. Despite her insistence on her daughter becoming a proper lady, The Marchioness does not ride sidesaddle.

Weaknesses:
- Her greatest weakness is her family, particularly her daughter. When any of her family is in trouble she’s more likely to do something hasty.
- Another one of her weaknesses is competition. She’s not likely to turn down a challenge when it’s been posed. Given the unfamiliar setting and circumstances that she’d be finding herself in that could easily become a hindrance.
- Being a headstrong individual, Frances can be stubborn and too set in her ways.
- She can be intolerant and inflexible. She won’t hold back her opinions whether they are deemed too judgmental or not. This can result in resentment from others and further complications.
- Disorder. She despises disorder and will be compelled to correct it.

If this is someone’s feeble attempt at levity, I am not at all amused.
[Having just arrived in this unfamiliar town, the Marchioness is surveying the vicinity paying particular attention to the other new arrivals. Her features are severe, her lips tightly pursed into a frown. Not aware that she’s currently being recorded she turns toward the nearest arrival and addresses them.]

Judging by your slovenly appearance I’m going to assume that you are also among the hostages? [Who would intentionally go out in public looking like that? The man looked confused at first unsure whether he should answer the question or feel insulted but nodded soon after. Conducting a similar series of questioning the others it wasn’t too long before it became evident that whoever had brought them here was nowhere in the vicinity unless someone had told a falsehood. Disappointed she bowed her head just enough to catch sight of the pokegear.]

What’s … this?

[Taking hold of it she drew it upwards, her brows furrowing. Unable to determine what the thing was she looked away from it.]

… And just where is that confounded music coming from?

Third Person Sample:

Not content to stand idly by and seeing that not many of the others were taking the initiative Lady Middleford spoke with authority and started delegating tasks to the other captives. “You there, see what you can learn from the local inhabitants,” Then addressing another person,” Take stock of the available materials we could be stranded here for an extended duration”. Once everyone was given something to do, she decided to do a bit of her own investigating. Thankfully, wherever they had ended up seemed to be fairly hospitable, and devoid of those infernal reanimated corpses she’d been dealing with before being drawn here. It was a concern however to find that her sword was now missing. More than likely they’d all been stripped of their weapons that implied premeditation on the part of the perpetrators.

The buildings in the area offered no real insight into the predicament, those she met seemed oblivious to the fact that a slew of people suddenly arrived in their town. It was more than a little frustrating. The initial message they’d heard meant nothing to her. She assumed it was the spouting of some delusion mad man’s nonsense. As she walked around the city she kept an eye out for the rest of her family. They’d all been taking a trip on the blue star liner Campania and she couldn’t help but wonder what had become of them. Her nephew and a few of his servants had also been on that boat, the idea that he and Elizabeth were probably still together gave her only mild resolve. The fact remained that Edward and her husband, the Marquis, were not in attendance meaning that they all could have been separated.

“You had better be protecting her, Ciel…” Lady Middleford silently said to herself although she also was concerned for his wellbeing as well. She paused and took a moment to search through the bag she’d been provided with. “They’ve provided us with the basic amenities…” She raised an eyebrow at the spare outfit and the undergarments. Drawing out a red and white ball with a seam running across the middle of it, she turned it over in her hand. A large round button jutted out from the orb. She gently ran a finger over the button before deciding to press it and discover what this ball contained. Frances stifled a gasp when a brilliant red light rushed out of the ball. She braced herself as the light swirled in the air in front of her. It soon twisted and morphed into a familiar shape before finally solidifying into a physical form. “This can’t be-“ She trailed off her eyes fixed on the creature, “A fiery horse?”. The ponyta tilted its head to one side scrutinizing it’s new master, then it pawed the ground impatiently before whinnying. “What a ….. Stunning creature”. The pokemon seemed appreciative for the compliment as it strode forward and shoved its muzzle towards her hand.
