Today was a very sad day.  I was asleep in my bed at 8 in the morning when my mom came into my room to tell me that my grandma had hired some people to come to the house and trim the trees along the side of our house (my grandma complained that they were going to hurt the roof if they stayed as they were).  My grandmother always thinks of these

I know exactly how you feel! My favorite tree in the whole entire world is the willow tree in my backyard in Corning. One year, someone advised that it's a good idea to "top" the tree to keep it from getting weak or too tall, etc etc... So they came and chopped off a third off of the top.. just as bluntly as they could. I was so devasted. Years later we read that "topping" trees is one of the absolute worst things you can do to a tree and there is nothing you can do to repair it. It's mutilated for the rest of it's life. Again, I was devasted. So I know exactly how you feel and I offer my deepest sympathies.
