Country Mouse vs. City Mouse

You sound like you felt a bit like a fish out of water this weekend. Yes, there are many people who grow up with a lot of ignorance, and being the first Jewish person they meet, even if they love you, doesn’t necessarily change the way they were brought up or believe. Part of going to college and not rooming with your best friends is the experience ( Read more... )

I think that was one of the wisest things I ever read (and you can tell your mom I said it) and I for one am so happy you are who you are and you believe what you do. You're one of the smartest, most open, and most loving people I have ever met, and I'm so glad that (even if this is only one-sided) you're still one of my closest friends, because you have changed my world so much. And not just by being Jewish, but by being who you are. I can't really say I know exactly how you feel, but I have had my share of people thinking of me one way and me being totally the opposite. And even if you can't change their mind, you might somehow effect them, so try not to get too frustrated. And just remember - you always have me :)
love you tons abs, and I'll come drop by sometime soon.

love,

marissa

well i was going to comment with something really sweet and well thought out.. but your friend marissa said all that i wanted to say. You're great as you. And being jewish doesn't effect at all how i percieve you. You are a great person, and she's right you shouldn't worry about small-minded people, just know you do have people who are open-minded and are greatly effected by you as a person. I kinda know how you feel, not totally, but a little. My religion, though christian based, is not a widely accepted religion. I was told by my own mother that my congregation is a cult, and not based at all on any form of the bible. She forbid me to go, until i was 18, and then only if i wasn't living in her house. A lot of my religion is based on jewish concepts. We have sabath on sat. We eat kosher. I don't know if this helped at all, but ihoped it did. Sorry i'm not as eloquient as your friend.
