R, I hope you've heard from others before me. You're absolutely right that talking to others will be helpful here. Church work is hard enough without feeling miserable and lonely on top of it. Part of having Christian friends is that we can share our pains and our joys. It's part of what we learn from Jesus, who took the worst of what we deserved (sin and eternal death) and gave us hope. Not much else I can say without sounding preachy, and you would probably prefer a listener more than a talker now, so I hope you get to do that. Peace in Christ, Jon
Chris, you're absolutely right. Church workers aren't allowed to have bad days, and that's absolutely wrong.
Church work is a marathon with intermittent firing squads, and the church worker (especially the female, elementary one) isn't allowed to carry a weapon. I think a lot of the reason is that the church has gone the way of the world in so many ways, including the education of its children.
Parents don't want their children to learn objective standards of truth and beauty; to be virtuous people with good habits. They want them to "respect everyone's opinion" regardless of truth, get good grades, and be a star soccer player. They go with the flow of modern society, and it's all wrong. They don't want to help their children squash the old Adam - they want to let it play video games and buy it a cell phone.
I don't know how to have a relationship with people like that.
yes, why is it that we're paid less, but spend more time and plan more? maybe it's cuz you have to deal with high schoolers. which i think would be tough. but some days, it's a toss up, cuz i'm tired of whiny, entitled children. what the heck happened to good parents?
